A memorial service for Bentlee Chandler Easterling of Branchville was held Sunday, October 6, 2013. He was the infant son of Christopher P. Easterling Sr. and DeEtte Kay Evans. He was preceded in death by a maternal grandfather, Wamond Walter Evans Jr.

The funeral for Mrs. Mary E. Gadson, 82, of Branchville, was held Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Canaan Baptist Church, Branchville. Burial was in Shack Ran Cemetery, Branchville.

The funeral services for Ms. Phyllis Azelia Jones, 59, of Orangeburg, were held Monday, October 7, 2013, at New Vision Centre, in Orangeburg with the Rev. Hercules Wright officiating. Burial followed at Belleville Memorial Gardens. Phyllis Azelia Jones, affectionately known as ‘Phyll,’ was a daughter of the late Samuel Jones Sr. and Bernell Reed Jones. She was born October 12, 1953, in Orangeburg. She was called to her heavenly home to be with Lord on the evening of Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Oaks Sheffield-Riverside. Phyllis attended the public schools of Orangeburg County and was a 1972 graduate of Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School. Phyllis did not allow her early childhood illness to prevent her from achieving her goals. She went on to further her education, earning a certificate in Early Childhood Development as well as an Associates of Arts Degree, both from Denmark Technical College. Phyllis was known as the historian of her family with the ability to recall birth dates, special events, telephone numbers and a wealth of other information. She had a wit about herself that would have you laughing to yourself many days after. Oh, the things she would say! Phyllis received Jesus Christ as her Lord and personal Savior in 1991 under the teaching of her brother, Bishop Albert Jones, at House of Prayer Ministry.

Freddie ‘Pete’ Robinson, 72, of Orangeburg, formerly of Smoaks, died Friday, October 4, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services were held Monday, October 7, 2013, in the Hickory Hill United Methodist Church in Smoaks. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Born August 28, 1941, to the late Joseph and Lena Mae Edwards Robinson in Smoaks, Pete, as he was known to his many friends and relatives attended the public schools of Bamberg County. At an early age he joined the Hickory Hill United Methodist Church where he held various positions (chairperson of the trustee board and chairperson of the finance committee). He was a past member of King David Masonic Lodge #21. In 1960 he married the former Mary Helen Aikens and to this marriage, seven children were born. He was employed at Miley Farms for over 35 years and then McFadden Concrete Co. until he retired.

Herman Eugene Sandifer, also known as Gene or “Jug,” 75, of Bamberg, entered into his heavenly home Sunday, October 6, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Main Street United Methodist Church, Bamberg. Mr. Sandifer was born November 23, 1937, in Bamberg, a son of the late Mr. Grady Sandifer and the late Mrs. Vallie Kinsey Sandifer. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. He was a Sunday school superintendent, adult Sunday school teacher and chairman of the PPRC. Some of his most precious times were following his grandsons playing sports and hearing his granddaughter play the piano at church. He retired from American Yard Products in 2000. He enjoyed family and friends, carpentry, gardening and was an avid Gamecock fan. He was a past Master of Ornan Lodge 38, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960.

Samuel “Sammy” Marion Sweatman, 70, of Holly Hill, husband of Aileen Jackson Sweatman, died Friday, October 4, 2013, at his home. Funeral services were held Monday, October 7, 2013. Sammy was born in Holly Hill, a son of the late Clarence A. Sweatman and Velma Young Sweatman Griffin. An Army veteran, he retired from Southern Tank as a dispatcher with 33 years of service. Sammy was an avid fisherman and was a member of Target UMC.

Gloria Ann Tyler, 57, of Denmark, died suddenly at her residence on Monday, October 7, 2013. Funeral services will be announced at a later date.
