Mrs. Venell Banister, 70, of N. Y., formerly of Bamberg, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at her residence. Funeral arrangements will be available at a later date.

Mr. Cunningham “Chop” Barnwell, 54, of Bamberg, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 2, 2013 at St. John Baptist Church, Bamberg. Burial followed in Bamberg Memory Gardens. He was born November 11, 1958, to Ellanora J. Barnwell and the late James H. Barnwell Sr. At an early age, Cunningham joined the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Bamberg. He was a graduate of Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School, class of 1977. He went on to continue his education at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College in Orangeburg. “Chop,” as he was known by family and friends, was employed by Ducane Manufacturing Co. in Blackville for 25 years. During his tenure there, he received several certifications in supervisor training and quality control technician and auditor. He also worked at Tuthill Corp/Cablecraft for three years in St. Matthews. On August 28, 1989, he married the former Myrtes Dickson.

Mr. Edmund M. Bolin, 68, of Goose Creek, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Bowman Southern Methodist Church. Mr. Bolin was born in Rowesville, a son of the late Wells C. Bolin and Rebecca Dukes Bolin. Mr. Bolin was a retired nuclear engineer from the Charleston Naval Weapons Station and was a member of Bowman Southern Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing the guitar and other musical instruments, being a ham radio operator, and spending time with his family.

The memorial services for Mr. Gerard A. Brown, 72, of Branchville, were held Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Glover’s Funeral Home Chapel.

The funeral for Evanglish Carter, 88, of Orangeburg was held Friday, May 3, 2013, at St. Paul Baptist Church, Orangeburg. Evanglish Carter was born March 15, 1925, in Bamberg to the late Joe and Sarah Carter and passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at Laurel Baye Healthcare of Orangeburg after an extended illness.

Eartha R. Fickling, 64, of Denmark died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Providence Hospital in Columbia. Funeral plans will be announced at a later date.

Dorothy Jones Gilbert, 85, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and formerly of Bamberg died Friday, May 3, 2013, at the Beth Israel Hospital in Brooklyn. She was the wife of the late Floyd Gilbert. Funeral services will be announced at a later date.

With his family by his side, the Reverend Charles C. Jeffcoat went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 29th, 2013. The family received friends at the Pamplico Pentecostal Holiness Church on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 and a celebration of life service was held Thursday, May 2nd at the same location. Burial followed in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Jeffcoat was the devoted husband of 57 years to Betty Jean Bell Jeffcoat, and the son of the late Jervey and Edith Jeffcoat. Born in Bamberg, on April 10th, 1934, Rev. Jeffcoat was the youngest of seven children. In over 50 years of ministry, Rev. Jeffcoat served as pastor for many special churches including Belvedere P. H. Church, Pamplico P. H. Church (21 years), Trinity P. H. Church of Lancaster, SC, Andrews P. H. Church, North P. H. Church, and Beulah Baptist Church of Pamplico (12 years). While tending to the needs of his congregation, he also ministered to the entire community in which he lived. His tireless visits to the weak, brokenhearted, and infirm endeared him to so many throughout the state. An avid Gamecock fan, he loved talking South Carolina sports and especially enjoyed the recent success of his beloved team. He will be most remembered for his great love of family, his tender devotion to his bride of 57 years, and his ministry in word and song in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. His legacy of faith, family, and service will live on in the hearts and lives of his family for generations.

Mr. Keith Alan Mann, 50, of Cope died at his home on Wednesday, May 2, 2013. A memorial service was held on Saturday, May, 4, 2013. Keith was born in Charleston, the son of the late Jerry Mann of Nederland, Texas and Mary S. Mann of Bamberg. He was also the grandson of the late Lydia S. Griffin of Bamberg. Keith was a member of the Church of Christ in Bamberg. He was a licensed electrician. His favorite hobbies were reading, fishing, and spending time with his family.

The funeral service for Marilyn Moncrieft of Denmark was held Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Honey Ford Baptist Church in Denmark. Ms. Moncrieft departed this life Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Regional Medical Center, Orangeburg.

Cole Livingston Smith Jr., 70, of Bamberg died Tuesday, May 2, 2013, at UniHealth Post-Acute Care in Bamberg. A graveside service was held Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Smith Family Cemetery in Bamberg. He was born September 21, 1942, in Orangeburg, the son of the late Cole L. Smith Sr. and the late Maybelle Proveaux Smith. He was a member of Bamberg Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Corey Hiott.

Graveside services for Georgianna W. Smith, 80, of Orangeburg were held Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Belleville Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Smith passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Regional Medical Center. She was born October 22, 1932, in Jamison to the late David and Harriett Whetstone.
