The funeral for Russell Brown, 58, of Denmark, and formerly of Ehrhardt, were held Saturday, April 2, 2011, in the Three Mile Creek Christian Church, Ehrhardt. Mr. Brown was born January 9, 1953, to the late Deacon Floyd and Ethel Brabham Brown in Olar. He joined the Three Mile Creek Christian Church at an early age. Russell attended the public schools of Bamberg County. He served his country with honors in the U.S. Air Force.

Madonna A. Grahn, 54, passed into the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, April 1, 2011, with her family by her side. Born in Jersey City, NJ December 16, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Walter Andrejewski and Patricia Crawford. At age seven she, with her family, moved to Columbia. Later she lived and grew up in Bamberg, raised and loved by the late Hagood Allen, Sr. and Mildred Allen.

Mrs. Emma (Chavis) Glover Grubbs, 82, of Denmark, died Monday, March 27, 2011, at her residence. She was the widow of the late Asa Goldbold. A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Denmark. She was born September 20, 1928, in Barnwell County and was the daughter of the late Ezra Chavis and Lizzie Nedels Chavis. She was a homemaker.

The funeral for Mrs. Annie Mae Haynes, 80, of Denmark, was held Wednesday, March 30, 2011, at Capernaum Missionary Baptist Church in Denmark. Mrs. Annie Mae Haynes, also known as "Granny Bird" to her grands, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 24, 2011. She was born on July 30, 1930, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Israel and Louise Hightower in Bamberg County.

Dr. Hassa Butler Johnson Hunter, 84, of Philadelphia, and formerly of St. Matthews, departed this life on Monday, March 21, 2011, in Philadelphia. Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 30, 2011, in Providence AME Church Cemetery in St. Matthews. Dr. Hunter was born October 6, 1926, in St. Matthews to the late John Butler Sr. and Ollie (Bookard) Butler. She was educated in the S.C. public school system and graduated from Voorhees High School in Denmark. She continued her education, receiving a bachelor's degree in education from Claflin University, a master's degree from Antioch University and finished her formal education with a doctorate in education from California Coast University.

Funeral services for Ms. Hessie Pinckney, 104, of Bamberg, were held Friday, April 1, 2011, at Emmanuel AME Church in Cope. Ms. Pinckney was born February 2, 1907, in Bamberg County to the late John and Queen Ann Jennings Pinckney, she attended the public schools of Bamberg County.

Funeral services for Mrs. Margie Elizabeth Grubbs Rountree, 86, of Colston Branch community of Bamberg, were held Thursday, March 31, 2011, in Barnwell. Mrs. Margie was born in Barnwell, she was a daughter of the late Harvard Leon Grubbs and Juanita Elizabeth Bolen Grubbs. She was owner/operator of Rountree Grocery in Olar for 24 years and was a member of Colston Branch Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Pough Travers, 61, of Orangeburg, were held Monday, April 4, 2011, at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Orangeburg. Alma Pough Travers, the daughter of the late Mass and Alphair White Pough, was born November 21, 1949, in Sumter.
