Denmark City Council
members gave their approval
to a resolution establishing and
agreeing for the city to
participate in the Lower
Savannah Regional Home
Consortium, at the February
meeting, on the condition that
the city’s participation will not
be detrimental or hinder the
city’s present Community
Development Corporation
(CDC) from garnering as
much funds as possible.
Denmark Mayor Gerald
Wright stated that the
objective of the consortium is
to provide housing for
citizens. And, when formed
would generate each year a
certain amount of funds for
home construction. He noted
that the consortium will be
formed with or without
Denmark’s participation. He
added that joining the
consortium does not guarantee
a municipality or county a
certain amount of money, but
would increase the amount of
money in a “pool” which the
city of Denmark would be
allowed to compete for.
Wright said the
information he received was
that having the city of
Denmark join the consortium
wouldn’t conflict with the
city’s present CDC. He also
noted that there would be a
cost involved, which could be
offset by the possible benefits
gained. June was noted as the
month Denmark’s portion of
the funds would be due if the
city elected to join the
consortium.
“I think we would be
passing up an opportunity if
we did not get in it,” Mayor
Wright said, adding the town
is not obligated for any funds
at this time. This keeps us in
the game.”
Also during the meeting:
. Denmark City Council
members gave first reading

annex Denmark Technical
College into the corporate

Rusty Munoz reported that for
the period of July 1, 2009
through January 31, 2010 total revenue in excess of expenses

Fund finances continue to
improve. Munoz stated that
despite shortfalls in
intergovernmental and
business licenses the city “did
a good job controlling cost.”
. Police Chief Leroy
Grimes reported that the police
department created 81 case
files for the period of January
19, through February 16. One

“Threatening the life of a

Holman Jr. completed a seven
day (56 hours) Basic Swat
Training Course through the
Government Training Institute,
Inc. in Denmark. The Chief
noted that to his knowledge
Officer Holman was the only
police officer in this area to
complete the course. Council

Edward C. Byrne Block Grant.
The grant funds would be used
to purchase 10 lap top
computers and software with
GPS capability inside police
cars.

Breland reported that the DFD
