Funeral services for Melvin Chisolm, 55, of Denmark, were held Monday, January 11, 2010, at Capernaum Missionary Baptist Church in Denmark. Melvin was born on February 8, 1954, in Bamberg County to Richard and Lusha Mae Smalls.

A memorial service for Gloria Holt Jones, 66, of Bamberg, was held Saturday, January 9, 2010 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Bamberg. She died December 30, 2009, at home after an extended illness. Born August 15, 1943, in Columbus, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Charles L. Holt and Elizabeth H. Benjamin of Pennsylvania and the wife of the late Randolph Burris Jones.

The funeral for Leroy Martino Sr., 98, of Bamberg, and formerly of Ehrhardt, were held Saturday, January 9, 2010, at McCune Branch Baptist Church in Lodge. Deacon Martino died Friday, January 1, 2010, at Bamberg County Nursing Center. Deacon Martino was born December 27, 1911, in Dorchester County, a son of the late Aaron Martino and Carrie Grant Martino.

Wilbur Charlie Syfrett Sr., 83, of Cordova, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Funeral services were held Friday, January 8, 2010, at Memorial Church of the Nazarene, Orangeburg. He was born February 4, 1926, in Orangeburg County, the son of the late George Andrew Syfrett and the late Leticia Dantzler Syfrett.

Marie Hughes Thomas, 81, widow of Marion E. "Nick" Thomas of Denmark passed away Monday, January 4, 2010, after an extended illness at Bamberg County Nursing Home. Services were held Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Ghents Branch Baptist Church, Denmark. Mrs. Thomas, born May 14, 1928, in Cope, was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Margaret Judy Hughes.

The funeral for Mr. Felder Willis, 57, Olar, was held Sunday, January 10, 2010, at the McCune Branch Baptist Church in Lodge. He was born to the late Etheridge Jerome Lewis and Elease C. Willis on November 18, 1953.
