House District 90 Representative Bakari T. Sellers held a town hall meeting in the commons area at Bamberg- Ehrhardt High School Monday night with a crowd of approximately 60 people attending.

Representative Sellers highlighted some things being done in Bamberg County during the meeting.

Sellers said, “We are close to securing 4.2 million dollars for the Bamberg County Hospital.”

Sellers said in Denmark, he was working with the town to get the matter of the wells corrected and he was proud that the city had received grant money to get started. Funds were also secured to redo the intersection of Highways 78 and 321 in Denmark.

The House District 90 Representative said he was working with the Bamberg County Library to build from ground up a new library in Denmark. He said the new library was important to him because it could serve as a meeting place for people who do not have computer access.

Sellers stated that he was “really excited” about the start of widening project for “portions” of highway 78 to accommodate truck parking. “Highway 78 will look like a highway ready for growth.”

He said that while “it is not ready to go yet” some money has been found for the renovation of the Bamberg Civic Center. Money also was acquired to build from ground up and Emergency Operations Center in Bamberg.

Sellers noted that “just enough money” was found to repair the roofs and windows at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School and Denmark-Olar High School. “It’s not a lot, it’s not a new building, but we’re taking it one step at a time.”

Representative Sellers said that the last project he is working on was “refreshing” in that it brought all the municipalities in the county together. That project he said was the consolidation of the water and waste water systems in the county into a regional water system.” We have a serious infrastructure problem. We’re trying to consolidate the water and waste water in Bamberg County so you can access water and waste water any place in the county.” He said that the project would represent a $34 million investment. “We’re taking it one step at a time.” Sellers noted that the Bamberg Board of Public Works does a “very good job at what they do” and Olar and Govan have a consolidated system now. “It’s (a regional system) is a good way to tie everything together.”
