Funeral services for Mr. Willie Chatman, 73, of Branchville, were held Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, in Springtown United Methodist Church, Springtown. Willie Chatman was born Sept. 24, 1935, in Denmark, to the late Tom and Lucy Sanders Chatman.

Mrs. Carolyn J. Coates, widow of Bobby Donnell Coates, of Denmark, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Bamberg County Hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, at Bethel Park United Methodist Church. Mrs. Coates was born in Knox County, Ind., a daughter of the late Azzie and Rachael Thorne Sprinkle.

Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Frazier, 90, of Bamberg, were held Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, in Good Hope AME Church of Cope. Alice Frazier was born May 29, 1919, in Cope.

Mrs. Marie Spires Hightower, 86, of Denmark, died Wednesday, August 5, 2009 in the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, following an extended illness. She was the widow of Charles Wesley (CW) Hightower Sr. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Ghents Branch Baptist Church. Mrs. Hightower was born April 7, 1923 in Orangeburg County, the daughter of the late Cleveland Spires and Maggie Bailey Spires.

Funeral services for Mr. Quillie "Pee Joe" Robinson, 61, of Denmark, were held Saturday, August 8, 2009 in the St. Matthews Church Deliverance, Denmark.

Leila Pearl Austin Zeigler, 80, of Bamberg, died Aug. 9, 2009, at Uni-Health Post Acute Care of Bamberg. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 11, 29003, at First Baptist Church in Bamberg. Mrs. Zeigler was born June 18, 1929, in Cameron, a daughter of the late Milledge G. Austin Sr. and the late Pearl Bair Austin. She was married to Clayton Thomas Zeigler.
