The results of an audit team’s findings have led to Denmark Technical College President Dr. John K. Waddell being placed on administrative leave immediately. James Hayes, Chairman of the Denmark Technical College Area Commission stated in a telephone interview Tuesday that as soon as the board got the results of the audit findings Monday night it moved immediately to suspend Dr. Waddell.

Hayes said that based on the audit findings the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was called in and is conducting an ongoing investigation.

A press release issued Monday, July 13, noted that Dr. Walter Tobin, Jr., who is currently Vice President for Academic Affairs at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, will assume the role the role of acting president until further notice.

“The area commission will work closely with Dr. Tobin as well as the faculty and staff to ensure our students continue to receive the educational opportunities and services they expect from Denmark Technical College,” Hayes said.
