2009 Dogwood Festival
Jerry E. Halmon, Staff Writer
Downtown Denmark was
bustling with excitement Saturday
in anticipation of the city’s Annual
Dogwood Festival Parade.
This year’s parade featured
out-going Mayor Carrie S.
Simmons as Grand Marshal. The
parade had over 50 entries including:
Beauty Queens, fraternal originations,
Girl Scout Troops, Motor
Cycle Clubs, local fire departments,
City Recreation League Teams, and
much more. Each organization in
the parade seemed to have an endless
amount of candy to throw to
the kids (who eagerly gathered it
up) as they passed by.
Denmark Girl Scout Troop
#34 was the winner of a $25 drawing,
while the Pure Passion Riders a
female motorcycle club from
Bamberg was the winner of a $50
drawing.
As the parade ended people on
the sidewalks of the town could be
heard saying” it was a great
parade.”
