Mr. Billy Carl Mitchell, 67, of Bamberg, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at his residence. A graveside service was held Saturday, March 28, 2009, Sunnyside Cemetery in Orangeburg. Mr. Mitchell was born Feb. 15, 1942, in Augusta, Ga.; the son of the late Julius Marion Mitchell and the late Martha Elizabeth Darnell Mitchell Utsey.

Richard L. "Dick" Knight, 89, of Orangeburg, died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 31, 2009 in Orangeburg. Mr. Knight was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Bamberg, the son of the late John Knight and the late Estelle Mudder Creech Knight.

Funeral services for Betty Lue Gilyard, 78, of Branchville, were held Monday, March 30, 2009, at Canaan Baptist Church in Orangeburg. She was born Aug. 22, 1930, a daughter of the late Eddie and Evergreen Gilyard.

Funeral services for Ms. Stella LaVerne Franklin, 58, of Bamberg were held Sunday, March 29, 2009, in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Olar. Stella was born to the late Ervin "EJ" and Addie Mae Franklin on July 9, 1950.

Jack Salley, 68, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and formerly of Denmark, died Friday, March 12, 2009, in North Shore Hospital in Long Island, N.Y. Memorial services were held Friday, March 20, 2009, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mr. Salley was born Sept. 30, 1940, in Denmark, a son of the late Howard and Bessie Mingo Salley.
