Following an executive session
at the regular September
22 meeting, Bamberg School
District one trustees voted
unanimously to rescind their
offer to deed the former
Ehrhardt Elementary School
building to the town of
Ehrhardt.
According to a statement
made by Bamberg School
District One Superintendent Dr.
Phyllis Schwarting, the district
made an offer to deed to the
town of Ehrhardt the use of the
old Ehrhardt Elementary School
for municipal purposes such as
fire department, police station
and rescue squad usage.
The Bamberg School
District One School Board
determined that there would be
certain stipulations in the use of
the property.
District One would continue
to have access to the bus
parking area at the school that
was recently paved for $60,000
and the facility couldn’t be used
for a charter or private school.
Ehrhardt officials stated
that they had no problem with
the district continuing to use the
paved area for parking, but
council would not agree to the
private/charter school use
restriction.
This offer was not acceptable
to the Town of Ehrhardt
according to a letter sent by
Ehrhardt Mayor Bill Stanley to
the school district’s attorney on
August 29, which was presented
to the board, Schwarting said.
“After hearing the advice
of their attorney the board voted
unanimously to rescind the
offer,” Schwarting said.
District One will now pursue
other uses for the building. |
