A special election is scheduled
for July 15 for Bamberg County
Treasurer.
The election is necessary to fill
the vacancy left by the retirement of
veteran Treasurer Ann Clayton,
who left office April 30.
Alice Johnson was appointed
to fill the vacancy after the
Governor’s Office issued an executive
order.
Initially, county officials
thought that the gubernatorial
appointment would allow the county
to avoid a special election.
However, at the last minute,
Bamberg County Election
Commission was notified that a
special election would still be necessary.
The South Carolina Election
Commission ruled that the interim
Bamberg County Treasurer, Alice
Johnson, must be the winning candidate
of the next general election
on Nov. 4 in order to continue to
serve as the County Treasurer.
Newly appointed Treasurer
Alice Johnson and new contender,
Patricia Anduze, are candidates for
this office.
