Bamberg County’s Relay for Life Teams and their participants in this year’s event successfully raised over $35,000 for the American Cancer Society’s research, education, advocacy, and service programs.

Valerie Bridges, Community Manager for the American Cancer Society, would like to thank residents of Bamberg County for their generosity and support in the 2008 Relay for Life event.

“The outstanding support received proves that the people of Bamberg County are truly committed to the fight against cancer,” said Bridges. “I applaud the 33 cancer survivors that participated in the opening lap and the survivor recognition. They are the reason we continue the fight because each year there can be more and more people living wonderful lives following a diagnosis of cancer.”

Relay for Life helps to fund new cancer treatment technologies and research, reduce cancer in minority and other medically underserved groups, provides everyone access to free cancer information, and supports community programs that help patients and their families cope with cancer. The American Cancer Society‘s mission is to eliminate cancer as a major health problem.

Currently more than 10 million American survivors are living proof that cancer can and will be defeated. Your support helps make a difference to those who have been touched by cancer.

The American Cancer Society recognizes that the more you give, the more you receive.
