Sherman Beard, 63, of Ehrhardt, died suddenly at his home on Monday, October 14, 2013. Funeral services will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Edythe M. Berry, 85, of Branchville, died on Saturday, October 12, 2013. Mrs. Berry was born in Branchville, a daughter of the late Otis H. McAlhany Sr. and Bessie Hill McAlhany. She was the widow of the late Jerome Berry. Mrs. Berry loved quilting, sewing, reading, baking and gardening. She also loved spending time with family and friends on the banks of the Edisto River. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, October 14, 2013 in Branchville United Methodist Church, Branchville.

Mr. Charles Douglas Blume, 71, of Bamberg passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013, at his daughter’s home in Moncks Corner after an extended illness. Funeral services were held October 15, 2013, in the Springtown Baptist Church, Bamberg. Mr. Blume was born in Bamberg, the son of the late J. C. (James) and Ruth Blume. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Winnie Binnicker Brickle passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013, in Rocky Face, Ga. She was born January 27, 1931, in Branchville. She was the widow of Lonnie Vernon Brickle. They were married on February 15, 1948. He passed away on January 1, 1988. The funeral services were held Saturday, October 12, 2013 in the Church of God in Orangeburg. The Rev. Brickle was a retired librarian for the Orangeburg district schools. She served as a volunteer chaplain at the Regional Medical Center. She was an ordained minister of the Church of God, a member of the Corner Stone Church of God in Orangeburg, having organized the Church and serving as pastor from 2000 until she retired in 2008. She was a blessed woman, greatly loved and respected by family and friends, and those she helped while counseling. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Patricia Diane Bryant, 57, of Bamberg, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. She was born in Orangeburg, the daughter of the Mrs. Isabel Heatley and the late Mr. Leroy E. Heatley. Funeral services were held October 11, 2013. Mrs. Bryant loved spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren. She was the number one sports fan of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spoiling them. She had a huge heart and always had a smile on her face. She was employed for 27 years at Phoenix Specialty Manufacturing in Bamberg.

Funeral services for Ms. Cathy Cymathia “Mae” Davis, 62, were Saturday, October 12, 2013, in Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Ms. Cathy Cymathia “Mae” Davis, known for her loving smile and warm laughter, was the daughter of the late Edward and Thelma Shuler Davis. She was born on July 13, 1951, in Orangeburg. She entered into eternal rest on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at the UniHealth Post Acute Care Center in Bamberg. At an early age, she joined Mount Zion Baptist Church in Bowman. She served faithfully until she relocated to Washington, DC. Cathy graduated in 1968 from Bethune Memorial High School in Bowman. In 1972 she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in History from Voorhees College in Denmark. She started her professional career with the Department of Commerce in Washington DC, as a realty specialist. In 1984 she returned to Orangeburg and continued to work for the Federal Government for a period of time in Columbia. Later she went to work for the Department of Social Services and ended her career as a supervisor of Grounds Facilities Management at South Carolina State University. Cathy had a heart and a love for people. She always had a kind word to say and a joke to lift your spirits.

Mrs. Clary Ann Dickson, 80, of Columbia, and formerly of Bamberg, died Saturday, October 12, 2013, at Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.

Frankie ‘Uncle Elroy’ Hudson Jr., 32, of Olar, died Wednesday, October 9, 2013, as a result of a vehicle accident. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Honey Ford Baptist Church, Denmark. He was born January 18, 1981, in Columbia, to Susie Wroten Hudson and the late Frankie Hudson Sr. He was educated in the Denmark public school system. “Uncle Elroy,” as he was known to his family and many friends, was employed for many years at Shuman Owens. He most recently worked at Allied Air in Orangeburg.

Mr. Kelvin E. Myers of Denmark died at home on Monday, October 7, 2013. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 10, 2013 in Denmark. Kelvin, the son of the late Alfred Myers and the late Rosa Lee Riley, was born Sept. 4, 1958, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was raised by his grandmother, the late Claran Riley, in Denmark. Kelvin was educated in the public schools of Denmark, graduated from Voorhees College and received a master’s degree in rehabilitating counseling from South Carolina State University. Mr. Myers was the director of mental health services in Bamberg County at the time of his death and served in a similar capacity for many years in Allendale County.

Gloria Ann Tyler, 57, of Denmark, died suddenly on Monday, October 7, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Central Baptist Church, Denmark. Born May 4, 1956, to the late Ella Mae Jamison Tyler and Nathaniel Freeman, she was raised in the home of her grandparents, the late Monroe and Iona Jamison Legree. She attended the public schools of Denmark.

John Clifton Valentine, 78 years of age, passed away at his residence on Monday, October 7, 2013. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 10, 2013 in Branchville Baptist Church. Mr. Valentine was retired from AYP and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Valentine was born in Bamberg County, the son of the late John David and Fannie Mae Hughes Valentine.
