County Administrator cleared of accusations Print E-mail
Written by Mallory D. Biering

Since November 5, 2012, Bamberg County residents, along with the newly appointed Bamberg County Administrator, Joey Preston, have been awaiting a ruling on 11 accusations brought forth by Anderson County, where Preston previously held the administrator's position.

However, the waiting ended on Friday, May 3rd when Judge Roger Couch denied the accusations concerning Preston's agenda. Anderson County spent more than $3 million of tax payer's money to retrieve the $1.1 million severance package given to Preston when he retired from the county.

Preston can now continue helping to rebuild the economic situation for Bamberg County, like he has done so with other counties. When Preston first took the position, former Chairman of Bamberg County Council, Chris Wilson, said "[Preston] will have a tough job to do." Since then, Preston has helped the county come to some conclusions about how to use short term goals to fix long term problems.

According to Trent Kinard, Bamberg County Councilman, he feels Preston, "has gotten as much work done in the last four months, than most administrators do in a year. He has had to tackle a lot of problems left behind. It seems like every day a new issue comes up and he is more than willing to step up and take the challenge on. I think we finally got an administrator that cares about Bamberg County and the people. We are starting to see positive things happen and in the future we'll see more positive things happen."

Preston said he, "would like to thank the court and the court administration for the considerable time and resources dedicated to the lawsuit's resolution." Preston continued to say, "I would also like to thank my family, friends and members of the community who have supported me over the last 4 years.

It is my sincere hope that the parties can now bring the contentiousness that has burdened Anderson County to an end while fulfilling Anderson County's amazing potential."

With over 20 years of experience in public service, Preston's philosophy is to respond to the challenges and needs of government with creativity, continuous dialogue, prudent planning, vision, careful budgeting and ongoing collaboration between communities, their government and businesses - a philosophy hoped to change the future of Bamberg County.
