By a more than a two-to-one margin, city of
Denmark voters went to
the polls on February 12,
and reelected incumbent
mayor Gerald E. Wright to
another four- year term as
mayor. Unofficial election
results show that Wright
garnered 283 votes to 127
votes for challenger
Patricia Anduze.
Following the hard-fought
mayoral race, Anduze was
gracious in her comments
after the election. “The
people have spoken and I
congratulate Gerald
Wright,” challenger
Patricia Anduze said,
adding “as I always say
he’s a very nice person and
hopefully we’ll be able to
work together for the
betterment of the citizens
and the city.”
Mayor Wright, while
acknowledging that he was
glad the election was over
was appreciative of the
election process itself.
“First of all I’m glad this is
over,” Wright said, adding
“even though we’re a
small town and just a few
people it’s an intensive
activity during a municipal
election.” Mayor Wright
noted that he looked
forward to working with
the folks that “we try to
represent”. “I think the
challenge is good. It forces
you to do some reflection
on how you’ve conducted
things.” Wright said he
will be trying to get some
ideas from a variety of
people “including
Anduze.” “We’re going to
look forward to
maintaining progress in the
town and making life
better for its citizens.”
A breakdown of the
election results show that
the incumbent mayor won
the majority of the votes in
each of the city’s two
precincts. In East
Denmark, Wright received
154 votes to 92 for
Anduze. In West Denmark
Wright received 98 votes
to 31 votes for Anduze.
