Evelyn Brown, 64, of
Bamberg, died Thursday,
December 6, 2012, at the
Regional Medical Center,
Orangeburg. Services were held Monday, December 10, 2012, at
Bethlehem Missionary Baptist
Church, Olar. Born April 28, 1948, in
Ehrhardt to the late Chester and
Ruth Ritter, she attended Clara
Barton High School in
Brooklyn, N.Y., and
Queensboro Community
College. At an early age, she
attended Pilgrim Baptist Church
in Brooklyn. She was employed
with the Human Resources
Administration in Manhattan,
N.Y. as an administrative
assistant for many years. In
1973 she was married to Lance
Brown. Evelyn relocated to
Bamberg in 1997 and became a
member of Ebenezer United
Methodist Church in Olar. She
was employed at the Bamberg
Job Corps Center as a residential
advisor until her health failed.
Daisy Bowers, 83, of
Bamberg, died Thursday,
December 6, 2012, at the
Regional Medical Center in
Orangeburg. Funeral services were held Wednesday,
December 12, 2012, at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist
Church, Olar. She was born June 15,
1929, in Bamberg.
J. Wayne Hill Sr., 69, of
Orangeburg, died Monday,
December 3, 2012, at MUSC
Medical Center in Charleston.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December
5, 2012. Mr. Hill was born in
Savannah, GA, a son of Vivian
Rigdon Hill and of the late
James Hair and the adopted son
of the late W. A. Hill of
Denmark. He was retired from
the South Carolina Employment
Security Commission. He was a
member of Cornerstone Church
of Orangeburg.
The funeral for Ms. Gertie
Lou Johnson, 48, of Bamberg
was held Friday, December 7, 2012, at Mount
Zion United Methodist Church,
Midway Community, Bamberg. Ms. Johnson entered into
eternal rest on Friday,
November 30, 2012 as a result
of injuries sustained in an
automobile accident. Ms. Gertie Lou Johnson,
daughter of Georgia Bell
Johnson and the late William
“Bill” Johnson, was born on
July 30, 1964, in Bamberg
County. She was a graduate of
Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School.
She was employed by Bamberg
Landfill Site and worked for Mr.
and Mrs. Phillip Sandifer. At an
early age, she joined Bethel
United Methodist Church,
Bamberg. She always greeted
everyone with a friendly smile.
Mrs. Maybelle Garvin
Padgett, 82, of Bamberg,
entered into eternal rest
Saturday, December 8, 2012 at
her residence. She was first
married to the late Oscar
O’Quinn and secondly to the
late Graham Padgett. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 11,
2012. Mrs. Padgett was born April
28, 1930 in Colleton County and
was a daughter of the late Lewis
Garvin and Mabel Hoats Garvin.
She was a member of Spring
Branch Baptist Church and was a
retired seamstress. She was
currently employed at the Ehrhardt
Residential Care and will always
be remembered as a hard worker
and as someone who was devoted
to her family.
Jennifer Ulmer Williams, 28,
of Cope, died Tuesday, December
4, 2012, at the Regional Medical
Center, Orangeburg. The funeral was held Friday, December 7, 2012 in Orangeburg. Mrs. Williams was born June
1, 1984, in Bamberg, a daughter of
Ronnie Lewis Ulmer Sr. and Kim Weeks Ulmer. She was a member
of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Jamison and was employed by
Bamberg Veterinary Clinic.
