Mrs. Mabel S. Dukes, 100
years of age, died Tuesday,
November 6, 2012.
Mrs. Dukes was born in
Bamberg County, a daughter of
the late Wade H. Steedly and
Laura Smith Steedly. Mrs.
Dukes was a member of
Branchville United Methodist
Church. She loved spending
time with her family and friends.
She was a committed and
notable walker in Branchville.
Mrs. Dukes was the widow of
the late John C. Dukes Sr.
Funeral services were
conducted Saturday, November
10, 2012, at Branchville United
Methodist Church.
Steven Ray Ellington, 35,
of Rincon, GA, died Friday,
November 9, 2012, at Memorial
Hospital, Savannah, GA.
The funeral was held Sunday, November 11,
2012 at Spring Branch Baptist
Church. He was born August 28,
1977 in Savannah to Louise
Crider Sparks and the late John
Ellington. He was employed
with Four Star Security and
Detective Agency. He enjoyed
camping and fishing. He was of
the Baptist faith.
Bobby Gene Jones, 64,
passed away Tuesday, October
30, 2012. Funeral services were held
at Pond Branch United Methodist Church in Gilbert on
Thursday, November 1, 2012. Mr. Jones was born in York
County, SC, son of the late
Daniel Dempsey Jones and
Lurlene Sturkey Jones. He was a
graduate of North High School.
He was an Army veteran who
served in Viet Nam from 1969-1970 and was the recipient of the
Viet Nam Service Medal and three Bronze Stars. He served as
Chief of Police with the Springfield Police Department
from 1984-1992 and was Lieutenant with the Denmark
Police Department from 1992-1995. He served with the Saluda
County Sheriff’s Department from 1995 and again in 1999 to
the present time. He was the Lake Murray Resident Deputy
with Saluda County Sheriff’s Office and active in the Holley
Ferry Crime Watch Community.
Wallace O’Dell Sandifer,
80, of Bamberg died Monday,
November 12, 2012, at his
residence. The funeral will be held Wednesday, November 14,
2012. Mr. Sandifer was born April
9, 1932, in Bamberg, a son of
the late Mr. Grady Sandifer and
the late Mrs. Vallie Kinsey
Sandifer. He was a member of
Main Street United Methodist
Church in Bamberg and was
employed by Bamberg Textile
Mills as a loom fixer for more
than 20 years. He loved cooking,
going to flea markets and riding
around in his car. He loved his
family, grands and great-grands.
William Calvin “Sarge”
Shirey of Bamberg, died
Monday, November 12, 2012.
Funeral plans will be announced.
Hunter Ryland Still of Fort
Stewart, GA, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Justin (Amanda) Still Sr.,
died Sunday, November 4,
2012, in Savannah Memorial
Hospital in Georgia.
A graveside service was
held Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Two Mile
Swamp Baptist Church
cemetery.
Sam Stevens, 85, of
Branchville passed away
Sunday, November 4, 2012, at
his home. A memorial service was held Saturday, November 17,
2012 in Edisto Baptist Church. He was born June 11, 1927,
in Colleton County to the late
Blanco and Hazel Stevens. He
was a retired carpenter. He
resided in St. Augustine, FL, for
most of his adult life. He
returned to Branchville in 2005
to be nearer to his brother, Donald Stevens (Mary) of
Branchville and sisters, Murdell
Sandifer of Bamberg and Phyllis Holloway of
Branchville. He served in the
U.S. Navy for six years, enlisting at the tender age of 15.
He was an active member of Edisto Baptist Church and
Fishers of Men.
