A frog croaking
Dear Editor,
To the people of Bamberg,
there’s an old saying: Croak
from your own pond. Well, this
is what I am about to attempt to
do. On October 7, 2012, the
Church of God of Prophecy,
where I am pastor, caught on fire
from a ceiling fan. I just went by
to cut on the AC when I smelled
smoke and I realized the church
was on fire.
My wife called 911 for the
Bamberg Fire Department for
assistance. Within 2 ½ to 3
minutes, the police and fire
fighters were all over that fire
with everything they had and the
fire lost the battle! They were so
professional and courteous.
They put tarps across the pews
and sound system to keep the
water damage to a minimum.
No one could know how I
felt when I realized this was
happening to a church where I
just became pastor for the first
time. But, I do know what it
sounds like when I heard the
sirens coming from the police
cars and fire trucks. It was just
like in the old days, when the
early settlers were being
attacked by the Indians. Then,
all of a sudden, you hear the
Calvary coming, blowing their
trumpets. It sounded like music
to my ears.
If you are a frog in a pond
and cannot croak from it, then
you should find you another
pond so you can croak. But for
me, I’ll croak from mine here in
good ole Bamberg. All of us at
the Church of God of Prophecy
will be praying for our young
men and women who put their
lives on the line to protect us
from the evil of this world.

Excellent job, Advertizer-Herald
Dear Editor,
Again I write to thank The
Advertizer-Herald for the
excellent job it does in our
community.
I appreciate so much Mr.
Tribble’s column in the
September 26th edition. He said
what so many believe and yet
dare not to say, “Elected
Officials should serve God first
and those who elected them
secondly.”
My thanks to all of you on
the Advertizer-Herald staff.
I continually ask people to
subscribe to your papers.
Betty Jane Miller, Barnwell
