Log Branch Road Church damaged in fire
Jerry E. Halmon, Staff Reporter
“We will have church,” said
Diane Bearden, wife of Church of
God of Prophecy, Pastor Clyde
Bearden as she and other members
of the church, located at 425 Log
Branch Road in Bamberg,
watched as members of the City of
Bamberg Fire Department fought
to save their church Sunday
morning.
In fact, if it weren’t for the
quick response of the pastor’s wife
in calling 911, more of the
structure could have been lost.
Bearden noted that when she and
her husband arrived for service it
was apparent that something was
not right. She stated that a ceiling
fan may have been the cause of the
fire. It was obvious when the fire
was brought under control by City
of Bamberg Firefighters extensive
damage had been done to the
ceiling, along with heavy smoke
damage.
According to sources the
Bamberg Fire Department
responded to the Church of God of
Prophecy at around 8:45 a.m.
Sunday morning. Heavy smoke
could be seen coming from inside
the structure. Firefighters
responded and extinguished the
fire quickly. No one was injured
according to the report.
As church members arrived
on the scene and after talking with
other church members several
noted that they would be going to
the Church of God in Denmark,
this Sunday morning to worship.
