Agnes Catherine Bozard
Ayers, 97, of Orangeburg, died
Thursday evening, February 16,
2012, at her residence.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, February 20, 2012, at Bethel United Methodist
Church. Mrs. Ayers was born in
Orangeburg, a daughter of the
late Walter L. and Ada Davis
Bozard. She was retired from
S. H. Kress Lunch Counter and
Piggly Wiggly Delicatessen.
Mrs. Ayers was a lifelong
member of Bethel United
Methodist Church and served as
the Church Secretary/Treasurer
for 57 years.
Funeral services for Sheila
L. Corbin, 85, of Denmark, were
held Tuesday, February 21, 2012, in First Baptist Church
of Denmark. Born in Leicester, England,
on September 14, 1926, she was
a daughter of the late Edith Mary
Underwood and Charlie
Underwood. She attended First
Baptist Church of Denmark,
where she was a member of the
Miriam McMillan Sunday
School class. She was devoted to
various missions programs at the
church, was a member of the
60+ club, and was involved with
World Changers, the Homebound Ministry and
Vacation Bible School. She was a retired sales associate from Belk.
Mrs. Ida Mae G. Elmore,
71, of Denmark, died Friday,
February 17, 2012, at the
Regional Medical Center of
Orangeburg. Funeral services were held Wednesday,
February 22, 2012, at
Capernaum Missionary Baptist
Church, Denmark. Mrs. Ida Mae Gray Greene
Elmore was born Dec. 11, 1940,
in Bamberg County, to the late
Floyd and Pretto Gray. She was
a member of Capernaum
Missionary Baptist Church until
her health declined. She was a
1958 graduate of Voorhees High
School. Ida was a retired bus driver
for Bamberg County School
District 2. Throughout the jobs
that she held, driving was her
favorite.
Funeral services for Baby
Mylia Ayonnia Monay George,
3, of Bamberg, were held Thursday, February 16,
2012, at Pilgrim Baptist Church
in Bamberg. She passed away Sunday,
February 12, 2012, at Palmetto
Health Richland in Columbia.
She was born March 20, 2008, in Orangeburg to Harold
Jr. and Thelma Williams George.
Funeral services for Verles
‘Sweet’ Grant, 98, of Ehrhardt,
were held Saturday, February 18, 2012, at McCune
Branch Baptist Church. She was born August 18,
1913, in Colleton County to the late
Berry Murdaugh and Raphael
Mingo Murdaugh. She entered into
eternal rest on Sunday, February
12, at her residence, surrounded by
her loved ones. At an early age, she
joined McCune Branch Baptist
Church. She was the oldest member of her church, and she
remained faithful until her health failed.
James Lewis Grooms, 73, of
Bamberg, died February 17, 2012,
at UPAC of Bamberg. The funeral was held Sunday,
February 19, 2012. Mr. Grooms was born in
Bamberg November 23, 1938, son
of the late Hebron M. Grooms and
the late Eva Boyd. He was the
husband of the former Ernestine
Frye. He attended Word of Life
Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr.
Grooms was retired from Public
Utilities and he loved fishing,
Carolina Panthers football,
Carolina Gamecocks football, and
loved his church and his Christian
family.
Funeral services for Raino
Hills Sr., 64, of Bamberg, were
held Tuesday, February 21,
2012, at Holy Temple Holiness
Church, Bamberg. Mr. Hills was born July 20,
1947, in Beech Island, S.C., to
Annie Hill and the late Metticus
Hill. He was educated in the public
schools of Bath, S.C., and was
baptized at an early age in Hazel
Grove Baptist Church. At the age
of 16, Raino relocated to New
York. Here he met and married the
former Evelyn Louise Kizer on
June 25, 1966. In 1967 Raino
began work as a truck driver for
Sunco Oil, retiring on May 2003
after 36 years of service. He
relocated back to South Carolina.
While in New York, he was a
member of the Masons and
became a Master Mason. He was
also a self-employed local
businessman. As an avid drag car
racer he won many trophies during
his lifetime. His other favorite
pastime was shooting pool.
Louise ‘Weezie’ Robinson of
Orangeburg died Saturday
morning, February 18, 2012, at
Lexington Medical Center after a
brief illness. The funeral was held Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at
Journey Community Church on
Edisto Drive. Mrs. Robinson was born in
Neeses, a daughter of the late
Thurmond Harsey and the late
Eula Hoover Harsey. She was a
member of Journey Community
Church. She was the widow of T. R.
Robinson. She was a loving and
caring mother and grandmother with a generous heart.
Leonie Mae Padgett Royal,
89, of North Charleston, died
Wednesday, February 14, 2012 at
her home. Born May 18, 1922 in Ashton,
South Carolina Mrs. Royal was the
daughter of the late Frank and
Nannie Padgett of Ehrhardt.
Leonie was a retired nurse
from Roper Hospital and a steadfast
member and Sunday School
teacher at Midland Park Baptist
Church. She lived a blessed life and
touched the hearts of her family,
friends and strangers with a loving
and patient Christian example of a
living angel.
