Mrs. Minnie Lucille
Boatwright, 87, of Bamberg,
died Friday, September 23,
2011, at the Regional Medical
Center in Orangeburg.
Funeral services were
held Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Mount
Carmel United Methodist
Church in Bamberg. Mrs. Minnie was born
November 17, 1923, to the
late Fred and Susie Porter in
Bamberg County. She was
educated in the public schools
of Bamberg County.
Funeral services for Mrs.
Lottie Mae Dowling Grant,
61, of Govan, were held Saturday, October 1,
2011, at St. Phillip Church of
God in Christ in Govan. Lottie was born August 8,
1950, to Mrs. Clara Mae Carter Dowling and the late
Julius Dowling.
Mrs. Elizabeth Reed
Greene, 87, of Bamberg,
entered into eternity Saturday
October 1, 2011, in the UPAC
of Bamberg after an extended
illness. Her funeral service was
graveside Tuesday, October 4,
2011, in the
Bamberg County Memorial
Gardens. She was the widow of Dr.
Beaucham F. Greene. She was
born in Boiling Springs,
September 25, 1924, to the
late Homer Cullen Reed and
Agnes Clement Reed.
Funeral services for
Samuel Guess Jr., 79, of
Denmark, were held Friday, September 30, 2011, at
Franklin United Methodist
Church in Denmark. Mr. Guess was born
September 25, 1931, in
Bamberg County to the late
Samuel A. W. Guess Sr. and
Mrs. Thelma W. Guess.
Memorial services for
Mable Hodge, 80, of
Denmark, were held Friday, September 30, 2011, at
St. Philip’s Episcopal Chapel
on the campus of Voorhees
College. Born August 9, 1931, in
Whitesville, N.C., to the late
Leonard and Rosalee Mullins,
Mable received both her
primary and secondary
education in Whitesville
public schools. After
graduating from high school,
she moved to New York to
attend Manhattan State
Hospital School of Nursing
and, in 1955, she completed
her training and received a
degree as a registered nurse.

Alexander ‘Jive’ Sanders,
49, of Bamberg, was held Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at Honey
Ford Baptist Church, Denmark. Alexander ‘Jive’
Sanders, son of John Earl
Sanders and the late Mrs.
Annie Mae Sanders, was
born June 29, 1962, in
Bamberg County.
Mrs. Artha M. English
Smith, 62, of Bamberg, died
Saturday, September 24,
2011, at the Medical
College of Georgia. Funeral services were
held Thursday, September 29, 2011. Mrs. Artha M. English
Smith, daughter of the late Leroy and Mary Williams
English, was born in Bamberg County on June 1, 1949.
