Verdia Mae Crawford, 60,
of Ehrhardt, died Thursday,
September 22, 2011, at the
Bamberg Regional Medical
Center. Funeral services were held Wednesday,
September 28, at St. Luke
United Methodist Church,
Ehrhardt. She was a former gospel
singer with Paul and the Wilson
Sisters.
Enos Edward Heatwole, 82,
of Denmark, died at his home on
Saturday, September 24, 2011,
after several months of declining
health. Funeral services were held Wednesday,
September 28, 2011, at the
Barnwell Mennonite Church. He was born December 14,
1928, in Rockingham County,
Virginia, and was a son of the
late Ralph F. and Vera (Early)
Heatwole.

‘Little Bub’ Hightower, 62, of
Charlotte, N.C., formerly of
Denmark, was held Wednesday, September 28,
2011, in the Hutto Chapel
Baptist Church, Hilda. He was Born July 31, 1949, in
Bamberg County to the late Sam
and Lillie Mae Johnson
Hightower, Frank joined
Springfield Methodist Church at
an early age. He was educated in
the Voorhees public school
system, Denmark.
Donald Roger Hyatt, 76, of
Bamberg, died Wednesday,
September 21, 2011, at his home
after an extended illness. He was married to Johnnie
S. Williams Hyatt. He was born
October 15, 1934, in Sharkey,
Ky., to the late Charles Edward
Hyatt and the late Lizzie Olive
McClurg Hyatt. He served in the
U.S. Navy for 10 years and
worked with Vonply Corp. for
15 years. He retired in 2008 with
32 years service with Life Time
Door Co. in Denmark as vice
president.
Funeral Services for Mr.
E.W. Morris, 90, of Jackson,
who entered into rest September
17, 2011, was conducted
Monday, September 19, 2011, at First Baptist
Church of Jackson. Mr. Morris was a native of
Olar, having made Jackson his
home for the past six years. He
was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Jackson and
the Barraca II Sunday School
Class and a former member and
Deacon of the First Baptist
Church of Olar. Mr. Morris was
a US Army Veteran of World
War II and retired from
Ameritron Corporation.
Mr. William Melvin ‘Bill’
Stephen, 83, of Ehrhardt,
entered into eternal rest
Saturday, September 24, 2011 at
his residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September
27, 2011 at Ghents Branch
Baptist Church in Denmark. Mr. Stephen was born May
8, 1928 in Connersville, Indiana
and was a son of the late Samuel
and Evelyn Stephen. He served
his country faithfully in every
branch of the military, retiring
from the United States Navy.
During his military career, he
received many medals and
decorations including the
National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign
Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with FMF Emblem. He
then retired as a Safety Engineer with Flour-Daniel Company.
The funeral for Jane
Evelyn Sandifer Ayer, 68, of
Cope, was held Thursday, September 15,
2011, in the chapel of
Crestlawn Memorial
Gardens in Orangeburg. Her parents
were the late Howell
Sandifer and the late Agnes
Johnson. She was Baptist.
She was retired from J. H.
Harland Co., West
Columbia. She enjoyed
cooking, dancing and
spending time with her
family.
Johnny Dowling, 84, of
Blackville, died Wednesday,
September 14, 2011, at his
residence. Funeral services were
held Sunday, September 18, 2011, at Hope
Memorial Park in Barnwell.
Mr. Dowling is the son
of the late Carrie Dowling.
Edna Lee Padgett
England, 97, of Bamberg,
died Tuesday, September 14,
2011, in UPAC of Bamberg.
She was the spouse of the
late Bryan B. England Sr.
Funeral services were
held Friday, September 16, 2011, at First
Baptist Church of Bamberg. Mrs. England was born
November 6, 1913, in
Colleton County to the late
Attigus Benjamin Padgett
and the late Ida Lee Risher.
She graduated from Walterboro High School and
attended Winthrop College.
She worked at Bamberg
County Hospital and later
retired from the Clemson
Extension Service in Bamberg.
Ashton Chance Christopher Moody, 1, of
Denmark, died Monday,
September 12, 2011, at his
residence. Services were held Saturday, September
17, 2011, at City of Refuge
in Denmark. Ashton was born
December 13, 2009, to Alvin
Moody and Mrs. Mary
Gilyard Moody.
