The Julius B Ness Sports
Complex recently received
$15,000 in funding from the
Greater Savannah Community
Foundation for much needed
refurbishing for the concession
building, bathrooms, and storage
buildings addressing safety
issues as well as the overall
appearance of the sports
complex.. The Julius B. Ness
Sports Complex is home to the
City of Bamberg’s sports
programs for young boys and
girls participating in soccer,
football, basketball, t-ball,
coach’s pitch, and baseball for
ages 3 to 15. People from all
parts of the county participate.
Approximately 500 children
participate in this program.
Parents, coaches, referees, etc.
volunteer their time for many
months out of the year to make
this program a success.
The Greater Savannah
River Community Foundation
serving Allendale, Barnwell, and
Bamberg Counties was created
to assist individuals,
organizations, and businesses in
directing their contributions and
philanthropic pursuits to a
variety of nonprofit
organizations and foundations.
The mission of the GSRCF is to
encourage, promote, and advance philanthropic giving
through education and the
responsible management and
distribution of charitable
contributions, and to provide the
structure for individuals to
accomplish this. The GSRCF
has been organized as a vehicle
to facilitate permanent
endowment and other funds that
will produce income to enhance
the quality of life in Allendale,
Barnwell, and Bamberg
Counties.
Core beliefs that drive the
Foundation are:
• Believe that rural areas can
thrive and prosper with ALL
citizens in the communities of
Allendale, Bamberg, and
Barnwell counties having the
expectation for achievement and
success at the highest level.
• Believe that counties with
natural eco systems and pure
environmental areas should be
preserved and perpetuated.
• Believe that life-long
learning, including early
childhood education, workforce
preparedness, high school
graduation, and higher education
are major keys to the successful
development of Allendale,
Bamberg, and Barnwell
counties.
• Believe that ALL citizens
in the three counties should have
access to adequate local health
care to ensure a high quality of
life. Believe that all citizens in
the three counties should have
local access to civic and cultural
opportunities.
