Miss Denise Anshana Counts, 33, of Blackville, formerly of Denmark, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Bamberg County Hospital in Bamberg. Funeral services were held Friday, May 27, 2011, at Rome Baptist Church in Denmark. Denise, the daughter of Louis Brooks and the late Pearlie Mae Counts, was born May 20, 1978, in Denmark. Denise attended Denmark-Olar public schools. She was a member of Rome Baptist Church in Denmark, where she was a member of the young adult choir.

Rodney Gignilliat Hackney, 69, of Ehrhardt and Fayetteville, N.C., passed away Monday, May 23, 2011, at his home in Ehrhardt. He was the widower of the late Esther Ann Turner Hackney. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 26, 2011.

The funeral for Corey Allen Hiott, 20, of Cope, was held Friday, May 27, 2011. He was born August 3, 1990, in Bamberg, the son of Floyd Allen Hiott and Erica Herron Hiott. He was a student at the University of South Carolina Aiken and was serving with the S.C. Army National Guard.

Memorial services for Ogretta Still Till, 81, of Orangeburg were held Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in the Jamison Community. Ms. Ogretta, as she was known to her friends, was born in Denmark on January 28, 1930, to Herman Darling Still and Nettie Mae Zorn Still. She graduated from Denmark High School where she was a member of the Beta Club. She attended Bessie Tift College in Forsyth, Ga.

Funeral services for Curtis Lee Vest Jr., 57, of Denmark, were held Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Ghents Branch Baptist Church in Denmark. Curtis was born in Bamberg County, he was a son of the late Curtis Lee Vest Sr. and Fern Goode Vest. He was a member of Ghents Branch Baptist Church and worked for Williston Transport and Williston Rescue Squad.
