Funeral services for Mrs.
Vernice Alma Porter Bolen, 84,
of Columbia, were held Thursday, May 5, 2011, at
Mount Carmel United Methodist
Church in Bamberg. Mrs. Bolen was born May
14, 1926, in Bamberg County to
the late Henry and Irene Porter.
She was a member of Rizer
Chapel United Methodist
Church in Ehrhardt.
Mrs. Elinor Platts Crews,
85, of Denmark, widow of
Walter O'Neil Crews, died Friday,
May 6, 2011, at Providence
Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Crews was born
September 24, 1925, in the
Hickory Grove section of
Hampton County near Fairfax.
She was the daughter of the late
Robert Edwin and Pearl
Loadholt Platts. She was retired
from AT&T where she worked
as a secretary and a telephone
operator. Services were held Monday,
May 9, 2011, at First Baptist
Church of Denmark.
Mrs. Lois P. Fogle, 84, of
Orangeburg, died Wednesday,
May 4, 2011, at The Oaks in
Orangeburg. Graveside services were
held Monday, May 9, 2011. Mrs. Fogle was born
October 10, 1926, in Orangeburg County, a daughter
of the late Charlie H. Phillips
and the late Lou Ellen Jackson
Phillips. She was a volunteer for
the Senior Companion Program
at The Oaks.
Abraham Lincoln Gallop,
92, husband of Leona Barnes
Gallop (98), of Lobeco, SC, died
peacefully Thursday, May 5,
2011 at his residence with his
family in attendance.
Lincoln was born August
17, 1918 in Harbinger, NC to
Hiram Clyde and Mollie
Shannon Gallop. Funeral Services were held
Thursday, May 12, 2011 at The Baptist Church of
Beaufort. Mr. Gallop resided in
Ehrhardt for 12 years.
Funeral services for Mrs.
Queen Ester Jennings, 69, of
Cope, were held Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Oak
Grove Baptist Church in Cope. Mrs. Jennings was born
December 24, 1941, to the late
Nathan Phelps and Willie Lou
McDonald Jennings in
Orangeburg. At an early age, she
joined Oak Grove Baptist
Church, where she served
faithfully as an usher until her
health failed. She retired from
Roc Lon Industries after about
28 years of service.
Memorial services for Mr.
Jerome M. ‘Smack’ Summers,
60, of Bamberg, were held Saturday, May 7, 2011.
Mr. Summers was born November 2, 1950, in
Bamberg County to the late John
Summers and Frances Jone
Bonaparte, he joined Mount
Carmel United Methodist
Church at a young age.
‘Smack,’ as he was called
by his many friends, was a
graduate of Richard Carroll
High School and served his
country with honor during the
Vietnam War. After the military,
he attended Voorhees College
where he received a BS degree in English.
Eva Mae Gantt Taylor, 82,
wife of the late George Elbert
Taylor, of Bamberg, died May 7,
2011, at Providence Hospital,
Columbia. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 10,
2011, in Main Street United
Methodist Church, Main
Highway, Bamberg. She was born January 20,
1929, at home in Martin, in
Allendale County, a daughter of
the late Benjamin Gantt and the
late Rebecca Winifred Cope.
She was a member of Main
Street United Methodist Church,
Bamberg. She retired from
Bamberg Manufacturing Company, where she served as
supervisor and in other positions.
