Mr. Franklin Delano
Gibson, 77, of Denmark died
Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at
Intermedical Hospital in
Columbia. Mr. Gibson was born
September 15, 1933, in
Barnwell County. He was the
son of the late Leeman Brooks
Gibson and Mary Lou Whetstone Gibson.
Mr. Gibson was a retired
Chief of Police of the Denmark,
Police Department, and spent
many years as a Bamberg
County, Magistrate. Services were held Saturday, April 9, 2011, at
Ghents Branch Baptist Church in Denmark.
Mrs. Emma (Chavis)
Glover Grubbs, 82, of Denmark,
died Monday, March 27, 2011,
at her residence. She was the
widow of the late Asa Goldbold.
A memorial service was
held Wednesday, March 30,
2011, at the First Baptist
Church of Denmark. She was born September
20, 1928, in Barnwell County
and was the daughter of the late
Ezra Chavis and Lizzie Nedels Chavis.
Funeral services for Mrs.
Ruby Frances Gilyard Harmon,
of New York, were held Saturday, April 9, 2011, at
Williams Chapel AME Church in Orangeburg. After graduating from
Voorhees College in Denmark,
she moved to New York City
and obtained employment as a
housing specialist in East
Harlem. She later gained
employment with the U.S.
Postal Service where she labored
until her retirement in 2002.
Willie Earle Jennings, 59,
of Orangeburg, died Friday
morning, April 8, 2011, at his
residence. Funeral services were held Monday, April 11,
2011. Mr. Jennings was born in
Orangeburg, a son of the late
C. W. Jennings and Elise
Binnicker Jennings. He was
formerly employed with The
Oaks in the maintenance department.
Funeral services for Pastor
Islene K. Pauls, 80, of Bamberg,
were held Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Zion Pentecostal
Rescue House of Prayer in
Ehrhardt. Pastor Pauls died Sunday,
April 3, 2011, at Country Wood
Nursing Home in Hopkins, S.C. She was born on November
20, 1930 in Bamberg, to the late
Mr. Islar and Sarah Kirkland. She attended Bamberg
Public Schools and worked at Sunbeam Appliance. Pastor
Pauls founded Rome Street Holiness Church in Orangeburg.
Funeral services for Nathaniel Pauls, 80, of
Bamberg, were held Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in the
Mt. Carmel United Methodist
Church, Bamberg. Mr. Pauls died Thursday,
March 31, 2011, at his residence.
He was born August 2, 1930, in Bamberg County to the
late Willie and Leather Mitchell Pauls.
Funeral services for Mrs.
Wilhelmina Meyer Ramsey, 98,
were held Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Pleasant Hill
United Methodist Church in Ehrhardt. Mrs. Ramsey was born in
the Ehrhardt community on October 13, 1912, to the late
William and Bertha Carter Meyer.
Johnnie Smith Sr., 87, of
Bamberg, passed away at the
Regional Medical Center in
Orangeburg on Saturday, April
9, 2011, in the presence of his
loving family. Funeral services were held
at First Baptist Church,
Bamberg, Tuesday, April 12,
2011. Born on December 21,
1923, in Bamberg County, he
was the son of the late Josie and
John Smith. Johnnie loved his
church and was a member of the
First Baptist Church, Bamberg,
for 50 years. He was a deacon
and president of the Fellowship
Sunday School Class. Johnnie will be
remembered for his love of
music. He played the guitar and
enjoyed yodeling. He and his
bluegrass friends gathered every
Thursday evening in the church
fellowship hall to play and sing.
