The Rev. Paul Callicutt Sr.,
90, of the Colston community,
Bamberg, went home to be with his
Lord Tuesday, March 15, 2011.
Preacher Paul, as he was
affectionately known, was born
July 5, 1920, in Columbus, Ga., to
Taylor and Viola Bloodworth
Callicutt. After serving in the U.S.
Army Air Corps in World War II,
he accepted a call into the ministry.
He was ordained at Beallwood
Baptist Church, Columbus, Ga., in
1953. He graduated from Truett-
McConnell College in Cleveland,
Ga., and Mercer University in
Macon, Ga. Preacher Paul conducted his
final sermon from behind the pulpit
at Memorial Baptist Church in
2005 at the age of 85, concluding
53 years of dedicated service. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 19, 2011,
at Open Door Baptist Church in Bamberg.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jane
Williams Gleaton, 64, of
Springfield, were held Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at
Springfield First Baptist Church. Jane passed away Monday,
March 14, 2011, at her home. Born in Orangeburg County,
she was a daughter of the late Olin
J. Williams Sr. and Melba Cook
Williams. She retired from the U.S.
Postal Service, having worked for
more than 30 years for the Wagener
Post Office.
Funeral services for Vernon
Cleckley, 86, of Mount Pleasant,
were held Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Mount Zion
Baptist Church, Cope. Mr. Cleckley passed
Thursday, March 10, 2011, at
Hospice Center in Mount Pleasant,
following an extended illness.
Vernon ‘Punk’ Cleckley Sr.
was born in Orangeburg County on
March 12, 1924, to the late Queen
Cleckley and Hattie Mae Cleckley.
Charles Donald Connelly, 64,
of North, died Monday, March 14,
2011. Funeral services were held Friday, March 18, 2011, at
Cornerstone Community Church
in Orangeburg. Mr. Connelly was born in
Orangeburg County, a son of the
late John William and Edrie Yon
Connelly.
Mrs. Clara Ann Jameson
Cope, 77, of Cope, widow of
Glenn Willard Cope Jr., died
Sunday, March 20. 2011, at the
Regional Medical Center,
Orangeburg. Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 23, 2011,
in South End Cemetery, South
Carlisle Avenue, Bamberg. She was born June 18, 1933, a
daughter of the late Earl Richard
Jameson and the late Mary Ann
Sanford Jameson. She was a longtime
member of Union United
Methodist Church, Cope.
Vivian Cedell Shuman Jump,
95, widow of David B. Shuman,
died November 15, 2010.
Graveside funeral services
were held Saturday, March 26,
2011, at Ayer Cemetery in Ehrhardt. Mrs. Jump was born February
26, 1915, in Sycamore, SC, a daughter of Angus Williams and
Agnes Ayer Williams.
Funeral services for Mazie
Kearse Ray, 93, of Bamberg,
formerly of Ehrhardt, were held Friday, March 18, 2011. Mazie was born January 2,
1918, in Bamberg County to the
late Joseph and Ella Kearse Ray.
She was educated in the public
schools of South Carolina.
Funeral services for William
E. Robinson of Williston were held Saturday, March 19, 2011,
at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Blackville.
George Jefferson Smoak Sr.,
87, passed from this life into his
eternal rest on Saturday, March 19,
2011. He was born in Bamberg
County on April 8, 1923, to the late
Horace Lee and Edna Marie Carroll Smoak. He was retired
from POM FLANT of Charleston, where he worked for over 30 years;
he was also a World War II veteran and a founding member of
the Branchville Church of God.
