Bikers club provides Christmas for kids Print E-mail

There’s a lot of Christmas giving this year for the kids that otherwise may not have the Christmas they deserve. Bikers wearing Biking for Santa shirts and participating in the Biking for Santa Foundation distributed Christmas gifts to families at the Bamberg Civic Center before Christmas.

Between the Bikers for Santa, the Bamberg Detention Center, the Red Cross Toys for Tots and Teens, the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, the various churches of the area, and individuals who’ve adopted a family for Christmas, there will be a lot of happy children this Christmas.

According to an early estimate, Bikers for Santa will be giving at least 130 children a merry Christmas this year, not “merry holiday” but merry Christmas. Sadly, There has lately been some tendency to replace the greeting Merry Christmas with Happy Holiday.

Regardless of the commercializing of the Christmas season, regardless of those who think that Christmas should be renamed “the holiday season,” regardless of those who’ve been able to delete the idea of Christ in Christmas, it’s still the season for giving, the birth of Jesus. Our nation, for goodness sake, was (and is) founded on Christian principles. Those who want to celebrate the season as other than Christmas can find elsewhere to do so.

Although nominally a Christian holiday, Christmas is also widely celebrated by many non-Christians, and many of its popular celebratory customs have pre-Christian or secular themes and origins.

Popular modern customs of the Christian holiday (and I emphasize Christian) include gift giving, music, an exchange of greeting cards, church celebrations, a special meal, and the display of various decorations; including Christmas trees, lights, garlands, mistletoe, nativity scenes, and holly.

In addition, several similar mythological figures, known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas and Santa Claus among other names, are associated with bringing gifts to children during the Christmas season, so thanks to all who celebrate Christmas in the name of the children.

The word Christmas originated as a compound meaning "Christ's Mass," and so it is.

Ever hear someone say, “For Christ’s sake”? Well, that’s Christmas in a nutshell.
