Nancy Green

A candidate for her 7th term as Bamberg County Probate Judge, Nancy Green announced her candidacy last week.

In South Carolina, the probate court is the only court in which to initiate an action concerning the estate of a deceased person, the will of an individual, the estate of a minor, the estate of an incapacitated person, involuntary commitment of individuals to institutions, or matters of trust. The probate court is also responsible for issuing marriage licenses.

Judge Green was appointed Probate Judge of Bamberg County by Governor Richard Riley to a term beginning June 15, 1984. She was elected at a special election July 31, 1984, and re-elected November 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004 to election time in 2008.

Prior to her appointment by then Governor Riley in 1984, Judge Green had spent 12 years working with the probate judge. Including her six terms as Probate Judge, Nancy has over 35 years of experience in the office.

Born in Bamberg County to Mr. & Mrs. Samuel Allen Hand. Judge Green has two sons, Craig and Chris Threatt and two grandchildren, Lauren and Richard.

Educated at Lander College 1956-1958. Judge Green is a Member of Trinity United Methodist Church, South Carolina Association of Probate Judges and the Charles Pinckney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Pedie Hiers

Pedie Hiers is seeking a reelection as Bamberg County Clerk of Court.

James B. “Pedie” Hiers has been the Bamberg County Clerk of Court for twenty years. He became Clerk of Court in 1988. Formerly he was in the Agricultural Chemical Industry.

Pedie is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He is married to Gerry Hiers of Bamberg. They have four sons and five grandchildren.

Mr. Hiers is responsible for all aspects of the different courts, including General Sessions, Civil, Family and Juvenile Court. The office is responsible for the accepting and processing of all paperwork concerning these courts and is required to maintain all the records of each court.

Mr. Hiers is also the Register of Deeds for Bamberg County, including the recording of deeds, mortgages and other legal documents.

In General Sessions, the Clerk of Court office is responsible for the acceptance and maintaining of all warrants that are not misdemeanors, handling the bonds for parties that are able to post bond until trial. People must apply for a public defender in the Clerk of Court office as well.

In Civil Court, the office is responsible for maintaining all paperwork in the civil cases, scheduling jury and non-jury trials as well as scheduling all motions that need to be heard. In Juvenile Court. The office is responsible for maintaining all paperwork as well as scheduling all hearings for the Department of Juvenile Justice.

In Family Court, the Clerk of Court office maintains all records regarding anything that is Family Court in nature, and are required to schedule hearings, process and disburse child support payments as well as determine and schedule hearings for past due child support payments.

Chris Wilson

Chris Wilson announces he will seek reelection to the Bamberg County Council District One seat. Wilson has served two four-year terms and is seeking reelection for a third term. He currently serves as Chairman of the Bamberg County Council and also serves on numerous Council and regional boards and committees.

Wilson says “I have enjoyed serving the citizens of Bamberg County and District One and have always tried to do what is in the best interests of Bamberg County and District One. I look forward to serving Bamberg County again if reelected and ask the citizens of District One for their support and vote. I promise to continue to work hard for and fight for Bamberg County to better the County for its citizens.”

“I have always tried to improve the services the County provides to its citizens but avoid raising taxes by holding ourselves accountable financially for what we do. We have a lot of important issues facing us. We also have a lot of great opportunities. We have done a lot during my service on Bamberg County Council to posture ourselves for economic growth, and we have enjoyed some recent success with the location of Kicking Horse in Bamberg County. Jobs and investment in the County have been and should always be a major priority. No question, the Hospital situation is the most important and most pressing issue in the County right now. We have some financial issues to address, but we have great opportunities there as well. I am fully committed to the continued operation and success of the Bamberg County Hospital and the construction of a new County Hospital.”

Chris is an attorney of Wilson Law Firm, Bamberg, SC. He is married to Dana Price Wilson and they have three children – Ansley (10), Graham (7) and Price (3).
