A two vehicle accident shortly after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the corner of North Street and Felder Street in the City of Bamberg resulted in one person being airlifted to the hospital in Columbia. Mary Bell Watkins Whittle 77, of 6773 Farrell Road, Branchville, was airlifted by Life Net helicopter shortly after the accident to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia with unconfirmed injuries. Roger Renaldo Priester, 21 of 4396 Hadwin Road Lot B. in Bamberg, the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident had no apparent injuries from the accident.

According to a Bamberg Police Department Accident Report a 2004 Ford SUV driven by Priester was traveling east on highway S-5- 132, Felder Street, when he failed to yield the right of way to Whittle, the driver of a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck, who was traveling to fast for conditions and heading north on S-5-165, North Street.

Mary Lou Bell Watkins Whittle later died on November 27, 2010 at Palmetto Health Richland, in Columbia, S.C.
