After experiencing several
“good months,” the Bamberg
County Hospital experienced a
slight “summer slowdown” last
month Hospital Principal
Administrator Carl Menist
informed Bamberg County
Council members at the August
9, meeting.
The hospital is currently
averaging 13-patients per day.
Laboratory procedures saw a
decrease of 10 percent from
May-June. While in-patient
treatment was down 30 percent.
Surgery volume was up 20
percent to 322 cases in June
from 269 cases in May. Overall
volume was down only 10
percent. The hospital recorded
a little less than break even
month with a $12,942 loss with
profit of $12,422 and a variance
of $25,000.
Revenue for the month was
$1.656 million compared to
$1,719 million for May.
Expenses for the month were
$1,670 million compared to
$1,650 million for May. Year-to-date profits budgeted for the
hospital was just under
$400,000 for the first nine
months compared to $421,000
for the first three months of last
year. The hospital had cash on
hand in the amount of
$570,000.
In other Business:
• County Administrator
Rose Dobson-Elliott said some
errors were found in the posting
of taxes because individuals
have moved their trailers out of
the county. She said this will
probably be the largest posting
the county has ever done and if
citizens think their taxes are in
error come to the courthouse.
• Kell Anderson, of the
Southern Carolina Regional
Development Agency
(SCRDA) reported on three
economic development
prospects for the county’s Cross
Rhodes Spec Building. Project
James out of the northeast a
metal processing company was
looking at the building.
Anderson also reported the
Army Corps of Engineers was
looking for a 15 acre training
site within 50-miles of
Orangeburg that would
employee 20-people. Also a
new project called “Aspen” out
of the northwest was interested
in moving part of its company
here. Anderson note that
company would be back on
Thursday.
• County Finance Director
Thomas M. Thomas reported
that as of July 2010
expenditures amounted to
$483,590. Thomas reported that
the county is “aggressively”
seeking quotes on repairs to the
roof of the DSS Building.
• Bamberg County Council
Chairwoman Alzena Robinson
thanked those for their support
of the Community of Pride
Back-To-School Bash that saw
over 400 students participated
in the various workshops. |
