The Bamberg One
School Board of Trustees
met on Monday, May 20, at
the Bamberg-Ehrhardt
Media Center. During
student and staff
recognitions, superintendent
Phyllis Schwarting
recognized Richard Carroll
Elementary School for
receiving two Palmetto
Silver Awards in the
Palmetto Gold and Silver
Awards program for 2009-
2010. The school earned one
award for outstanding
student academic
performance. RCES also
received the Palmetto Sliver
Award for excellent results
in closing the achievement
gap between white and
African-African American
male students.
In other business
Schwarting said she met
with some of the contractors
who are interested in bidding
on the new school and
district renovation project.
She said the district is taking
applications through June 8.
Schwarting announced
that Bamberg One was once
again recognized by the
State for being one of the
first schools to complete the
district’s Individual
Graduation Plan (IGP).
Robbie Kearse, B-E
Middle School principal was
recognized for participating
in the South Carolina
Insurance Trust P.A. R.
program. Kearse’s
participation in the program
assists the district with
saving five percent in
insurance premiums.
Schwarting recognized a
number of students and staff
for additional
accomplishments and noted
that a complete listing of
student award recipients is
available in this year’s
awards night program.
Schwarting recognized
several board members for
additional hours of training
through the South Carolina
School Board Association.
Phyllis Overstreet
presented an overview for
the new fiscal year that
included how the district will
receive federal funds.
Overstreet said many of the
funding programs will be
consolidated.
The trustees voted to
participate in the TAN
Resolution, a program
designed to allow the district
to borrow money before
funds from taxes are
distributed to the district.
Although the trustees vote
on the resolution every year,
“it has been the district’s
practice to participate in this
program annually”.
Schwarting noted a
furlough date change for the
primary school. She said
primary teachers had already
scheduled a staff
development session for
August 12. Therefore those
teachers will use February
28, 2011 as a furlough day. |
